BARLA TRAVEL TO CUMBRIA IN AID OF THE GARRY PURDHAM MEMORIAL FUND

Following the fatal shooting of Garry Purdham in June this year a BARLA Vice Presidents Select side are to play the BARLA Cumbria County side at Copeland Stadium, on Saturday 14th August 2010, kick off 2.30pm.

All proceeds from the game will go towards the Garry Purdham Memorial Fund.

BARLA International Garry began his rugby league career at Egremont Rangers, turned professional with Whitehaven, and went onto to play for Workington Town before returning to play for Egremont Rangers were he played last season.

The game has been organised by Jackie Reid MBE, Senior Vice President of BARLA who resides in Egremont, and has been involved in the amateur and professional game in Cumbria for a lifetime.

Jackie Reid said,

“The reasoning behind this game is that Garry was a BARLA international and went on the 1987 tour of Australia. He was a great tourist and was a great ambassador and example for everyone on that tour.

“He was tragically killed in June this year whilst doing some work on his father’s farm and he has left his wife Ros and two young children Flynn and Cameron.

“This game between a BARLA Vice Presidents Select and the BARLA Cumbria County side is in aid of his memorial fund and all the proceeds will go to that to help his family.”
