Lions and Norland both enjoy big wins

IN the GMB Union Hull & District League only three matches took place due to the Challenge Cup game at the KC Stadium between Hull FC and Leeds on Saturday.

Jimmy Walker and Rob Wilson's West Hull Lions kept their hold on the top spot with an emphatic 50-22 win over top four hopefuls Skirlaugh Bulls.

There was no stopping Lions under-18s full-back Jack Ridsdale, who finished with five touch downs.

He had ran in his hat-trick by the half-hour mark, the latter when he latched onto a ludicrous flick out of the tackle by Mike Cavill and then racing 40 metres.

Within five minutes of the second half he had ran in two more, but he did not have it all his own way.

Brett Leech added a try on the 40-minute mark to give the Lions a commanding 22-4 at the break, the Bulls' Adam Salmon racing 50 metres for an unconverted score for his side.

Further second half scores for the Lions went to Jimmy Finch, Liam Crooks and Dave Mankel, Pete Grayburn slotting over seven goals.

The Bulls did make the score more respectable with a brace to Jamie Shaul and a solo Tom Saltmer effort, with Andy Robinson converting all three.

With one game to go, the Lions can achieve a maximum of 32 points, but Norland Sharks have four games to go and if they win them all they will sit on 33 points.

The Sharks bounced back from a narrow defeat in midweek to Orchard Park to thrash Myton Warriors 'A' 76-4.

It was 50-0 by the break with tries for Liam Storey, Rob Gardiner, Sam Sanders, Nathan Walker (2), Shane Tidswell, Craig Adams, Danny Gardiner and Ben Rowen. Dick McNeil converting seven goals.

After the break, Norland carried on where they had left off with tries for Karl Gardiner, Rowen, Lee Nobbs, Danny Fintoft and Danny Gardiner.

Myton were rewarded for their efforts with scrum-half James Jennison diving over in the corner.

East Hull Dragons' game with Hull Dockers 'A' was called off as Easts' first team had to call up a lot of the Dragons team to make a team to face Wigan St Judes in the Premier League.

In the only other game played, Norland Sharks 'A' beat Cottingham Tigers 37-24 in Division One.
