Lions See off Army

The Great Britain Community Lions warmed up for their forthcoming tour of South Africa with a hard fought 26-4 win over the Army on Saturday.

The Lions hit the front as soon as the 12th minute as lively hooker Jimmy Bardgett (pictured) spotted a gap in the defence to dart over, and just two minutes later they further increased their advantage as full back Joe Budd crossed following a great handling movement that involved Anthony Atherton and Wayne Leyland.

With Jordan Precious improving both efforts Great Britain had opened up a 12-0 lead very early into the game, however the Lions next effort came via a slice of luck as centre Leyland hacked ahead a poor pass from scrum half Tony Baker and was able to re-gather and touchdown.

Despite trailing 16-0 at the break the Army deserve great credit for their performance and despite falling further behind after GB winger Chris Walker and full back Budd went in for his second, the armed forces side saw their efforts rewarded in the dying minutes when winger Isaia Bobo scored in the corner
