Cator Seals Jack Daddy Triumph

AN interception try from Tom Cator late on helped Norland Academy to a 29-22 victory over Bilton Sully's in the Jack Daddy Memorial Cup final at Haworth Park.

The final, for teams from the GMB Union Hull & District League Division One saw a very tense finish.

Norland sat one point ahead at 23-22 deep into injury time and with Bilton pressing Dave Green threw out a long pass to the right but Cator intercepted and raced the length of the pitch to score under the posts to clinch the trophy.

In the first half, Warren Smithies got Norland first on the score sheet on 20 minutes with a well taken try after he took the return pass from Rob Loughran to cross the white-wash, with Carl Rollinson adding the conversion.

Bilton's Dean Knaggs and Matt Sneed combined in an 80-metre move to put Lee Knaggs in at the right hand side for an unconverted score.

Sub Cator then raced in at the left corner for an unconverted score to extend Norland's lead to 10-4.

Bilton's Scott Runkee had a try disallowed just before the break, and in the second period Norland stretched their lead further when Tom Barker raced clear after intercepting and played in the supporting Ben Rowen to go over.

Runkee then collected a high Dave Green kick to cross, with Sneed converting, but Bilton soon found themselves 23-10 down when Smithies got his second after the restart.

Rollinson again added the extras before sinking a drop goal.

From here Bilton's Dean Knaggs bagged a superb solo try when weaving his way through the defence to go in from 70 metres and five minutes later Runkee charged in for his second.

With 15 minutes to go there was one point in it but Cator sealed the win right at the death.
