Four Seasons Consultation Process

In response to concerns and requests from the Community Game, The RFL has held a series of meetings with key organisations and leagues across the Community Game to gauge opinions on the problems caused by the poor weather experienced during the winter months. These discussions and other contributions from grassroots people have shown that there is some appetite to investigate options for the playing season for both Junior and Open Age games.

Initial meetings have been held in the Northwest and in Yorkshire and have been attended by league and club representatives as well as representatives from the BARLA Board of Management.

There will be one further meeting at the George Hotel in Huddersfield on April 14 to finalise a proposal to the Community Board as to a possible way forward. A wide cross section of the Community Game has been invited to participate in this working group There are a very limited number of places still available at the meeting and anyone who would like to attend should contact Community Game Services on 01484 448000 or email communitygameservices@rfl.uk.com

The results of these discussions will be presented to the Community Board on April 30 and if there is clear evidence that there is support for a possible change there will be further formal consultation throughout the game before any final recommendation is made.

David Gent, RFL Director of Participation and Strategic Partnerships said: “This is a Community Game led initiative and the RFL does not have a position either way at present."

“We only wish to listen to the players, coaches, volunteers, clubs and leagues as to how they want to develop the sport which we all enjoy. At the end of this process there will be a well researched recommendation which will go forward to the clubs and leagues, however it will remain ultimately a decision for clubs and leagues.”

The RFL is keen to hear views from all parts of the game and if you wish to know more or wish to make a comment please e-mail Andy Harland at andy.harland@rfl.uk.com
