FOUNDATION AT LARGE IN LINCOLNSHIRE

The Hull FC Foundation hit the road once again last week for their annual visit south of the Humber to Boston College to provide fun, games and skills sessions with Lincolnshire students.

It is the fifth year running that the Black and Whites have made the trip into the heart of Lincolnshire, an area in which Hull FC are now proud to be exploring in much greater depth, including further coaching classes and work with local schools and sports clubs.

Last week, Hull FC Foundation Officers, Sasch Brook, Danny Wilson and Matt Adams joined Mandy Scaiman of Boston College to spend a full day coaching girls and boys aged 16 to 18 years old.

Teamwork was the real focus of the day, with various games taking place, some less serious than others including the classic, ‘Bull Dog Charge’!

Core skills were also the focus of various activities, including some rugby related sessions including kicking and even the use of the tackle shields, which by all accounts, all the members of the group certainly enjoyed!

For some, it was their first taste of Rugby League and certainly their first involvement in playing the sport, but all the students showed enthusiasm and a willingness to take part, enjoying the sessions provided by the Hull FC Foundation.

Boston College tutor and Advanced Practitioner, Mandy Scaiman commented, “The Foundation do a fantastic job and certainly managed to get the students motivated during what is a busy period of studying for them.

“For the girls, it was good to get them out of their comfort zone and for the lads, it’s just great to get them out of the classroom and everyone really enjoyed the day.”

She added, “It is a really worthwhile exercise getting the students away from their desks and doing something active alongside their studying and we are proud and pleased to have continued working with Hull FC.

“It is the fifth year they have been to Boston College and we will certainly make sure it isn’t the last.”

Hull FC Community Director, Jon Flatman also said, “We have been delighted with the response to the sessions at Boston College and we are always pleased to return there.

“We are currently expanding our work in Lincolnshire as we believe this is an area that only receives limited availability to Rugby League, as well as the community and coaching programmes of a top flight sports club.

“It is certainly an area rich with talent, as we have seen with our previous work south of the Humber, whilst this has also been epitomised by the recent acquisition of youngster, Laurence Pearce, who has joined the club as a professional player having worked his way up through the amateur Rugby Union network in Lincolnshire.”
