Trails will take place this month for the England Colleges squad who will begin their 2010 international programme with a game against Wales U18’s in August followed by an away fixture against the Catalans Dragons Academy.
The trials will be held regionally and any player who is currently studying, or has just finished Y13, at school or further Education should contact matt.jeffery@rfl.uk.com for further details.
Meanwhile, the Student Rugby League is pleased to announce the appointment of Dean Reacher as the England Colleges Head Coach.
Reacher, a teacher at current Yorkshire College Champions Wilberforce College, has been involved with Student Rugby for ten years in both a playing and coaching capacity.
A graduate of the University of Chester, Reacher has coaching experience at scholarship and academy level with both of the professional clubs in Hull and has recently took over the reigns as 1st team coach at NCL giants Skirlaugh ARLFC.
“Dean has been in our system for a long time now and has always turned out well prepared, disciplined teams both at club and representative level,” said Student Rugby League Manager Matt Jeffery.
“He’s previously coached at regional level for us and I believe this step up will provide Dean with a great challenge, which I’m sure he’s well capable of fulfilling.”
Reacher’s first task will be to select and prepare a squad to take on the Welsh U18’s in August, a challenge that he’s taking very seriously.
“The Welsh are getting stronger and stronger every year and beat the Community Lions U18’s quite comprehensively back in January, we will certainly be going down there knowing that we’re in for a tough encounter.”
“It’s a great honour to coach your country at any level, and I’ll be grasping this opportunity with both hands.”
