THE GMB Union Hull & District League's 2009/10 season came to an end at Haworth Park with the Council Trophy and Bassett Cup finals played out on a scorching day.
Norland Academy were hoping to add the Council Trophy to their previous two cups, but Holderness Vikings had done their homework and came away with a 24-12 victory.
The first 15 minutes of the game were end to end, until Norland's Ben Rowen raced 80 metres to score.
Vikings hit back with solo efforts from Jason Hogg and man of the match Ali McCloud, both converted by Paul Blythe for a 12-4 lead.
After the break, good backing up from Dean Hines saw him close the gap, only for Blythe to go over on the hour and convert for 18-6.
Norland's Warren Smithies then burrowed over from acting half, but Karl Rollinson missed his third kick to leave Norland trailing by six.
Vikings sealed the win when a barnstorming run from big Holderness prop Sam Wray saw him go over.
In the Bassett Cup, Bransholme Dales completed a treble of cup wins this season with a 20-14 win over West Hull Lions.
Mike Beecher put the Dales on the score board within five minutes, Craig Skelton adding the extras.
But Wests led 8-6 at the break when skipper Jimmy Finch played a perfect pass to teenager Luke Birnie in his own 20-metre area and he did the rest to race under the posts.
Pete Grayburn added the conversion and then a penalty eight minutes later.
It was 14-6 after the interval when Grayburn converted after another youngster, Liam East, ghosted in 40 metres to score.
But in the last 20 minutes, Dales scored 14 unanswered points to take the victory.
Beecher ran the length of the field to score, before Anth Rhodes picked up a loose ball to crash over and level at 14-14.
Right at the death, Pete Sansam squeezed in at the left corner and Skelton superbly converted to give Dales the glory.
